Discussion in 'What's it Worth' started by schroeder2246, Jan 9, 2010.

  1. Was going through some coins with a friend earlier tonight, and we stumbled across this 90 degree rotated die 1923 Peace Dollar. It was a pretty exciting find! Please let me know your opinion about this coin. Thanks!

That is a nice coin. Also is that a V in trust? it looks that way unless that is just where the mistrike happened.

All Peace dollars have "V" in trust - it's the artist's choice.

This is one of the most common calls to coin shops along with the 43 Steel/Copper question.

Very nice flip side for certain!! Better obverse than a reverse and you can tell better than me but my guess is an MS61. Weak strike is extremely common with the Peace dollar. The rotated reverse makes it a winner!!

  7. Thanks for the replies! Can anyone provide some input about what kind of premium this error might bring to the coin?

Most difficult to say, but I would go on ebay and look around b/c they have alot of error Peace dollars. Be sure to check the BIN's. In fact I would check the BIN's first. :hail:

  10. So far I haven't seen any auctions on ebay, but i'll be sure to keep looking. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Just saw one on ebay

The rotated die peace dollar I just viewed on ebay is listed at 250,000.00!!! The listing says they are very rare and very in demand. Weather that is true or if it sells....who knows lol but if I were you (and you still have the coin) I WOULD WATCH THIS AUCTION AND I WOULD HANG ONTO IT LOL....Good luck....GREAT FIND!!!
I found a major die rotation on a 1864 american 2 cents last evening in my possession and was so excited as it is my first rotation find!

    Have a great day...

  12. Oh, wow!

could you send me a link to that auction? I doubt it would sell for that much... but it'd be nice to get an idea.

That auction is a pipe dream listed by an uninformed person.

The coin in the auction shown is worth about $200 at the MOST (mostly because of the grade it looks nice). Rotated dies are relatively common.

  15. wow... that one is only really rotated like 15 degrees... lol

from what I've researched though, there were about 80 or so made of the one I've posted.

  16. Also... that slab looks so legit... I can't even tell if it's by NGC or PCGS!!!

    (joking... lol)

The Peace dollars use a V in the word TRUST.
