OK. My Name is Mike Marshall. google it with coins. Check the articles written in MAJOR canadian Press. Here is a sure fired way to get something started. I could care less if you live in NY or DuckButtNowhere Idaho...this the press will love.........
1)Get a few of the counterfeit coins from China....I will use Jing...as an example because he made it so easy.......2)contact a reporter (prefer one with National affiliation) but anyone is better than none. Explain that you are about to divulge a major counterfeiter to the Authorities and would love for them to run the story. Explain that you also have proof of a major USA based company laundering the proceeds of the counterfeiting.........have jing's web add handy. 3) make appointment with authorities....unsure which it will be there.......be prepared.....know the hobby protection act etc......if no interest....get name..rank badge number etc.....keep trying.........always keep press involved......they love beating up the authorities, and the authorities hate getting beat up........to add some flavour in the broth.....inform you local authorities start with the mayor and work your way up......but do not stop......keep files on who you sent what etc......If you get the press going......chips will fall.............I DARE YOU! FOX news or THE COLBERT REPORT would be a good start..............:loud: Get your lawmakers to ammend the Hobby protection act to read that the word "COPY" or "Replica" MUST be a part of the die or mold that makes the coin would eliminate 99% of the problem. Hand Stamping is unacceptable.........no rocket science people. Regards Mike:secret:

How do you propose to force the Chinese to enforce it?

If you're going to change he law, just make it like the law for dollar bills. That all copies must be something like at least 10% larger or 10% smaller than the original.

And that knowingly distributing fake coins or facilitating their distribution is subject to fines or imprisonment....or death.

I could care less about the Chinese???????? We can only concern ourselves with our borders. If that includes STOPING these things from crossing that border....so be it.........Stop the LEAK....Then clean up the mess. Find ways to do things......Not reasons substaniating INACTION! If it is illegal in the USA..........do not let it happen.

You can't. Cut off the distribution channels that are actually in the U.S., as well as the importation channels thereof.

I concur. Here is the Secret Service guidance for currency:
The Counterfeit Detection Act of 1992, Public Law 102-550, in Section 411 of Title 31 of the Code of Federal Regulations, permits color illustrations of U.S. currency provided:

    • The illustration is of a size less than three-fourths or more than one and one-half, in linear dimension, of each part of the item illustrated

    • The illustration is one-sided
    • All negatives, plates, positives, digitized storage medium, graphic files, magnetic medium, optical storage devices, and any other thing used in the making of the illustration that contain an image of the illustration or any part thereof are destroyed and/or deleted or erased after their final use
Again... Cut off the distribution channels that are actually in the U.S., as well as the importation channels thereof.

You won't, don't, and cannot make or enforce any law in a foreign country. Just like it is illegal to own a car in America that does not meet our EPA standards (as a for-instance), there is absolutely nothing to inhibit Chrysler, GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc. from making such a car and selling it to any other country they so desire. It may, or may not, be illegal to own said car in that country, but there is nothing our government has to say about the matter so long as it is not sold in our country. It is up to the second country not to allow a car not meeting their standards to be sold in their country. That is exactly what China is doing with there coins. It is legal and it should be legal to make them. However, it should not be legal to sell or own them in countries desiring not to allow them.

What we need to do is make a law where it is illegal to own, sell, or possess any such counterfeit, replica, or copy coin that could in anyway deceive anyone else. One such step in that direction is to only allow coins that have been made with marked dies and not post mint hand stamped.

Ok, you're *that* Mike Marshall. What you got done in Canada (congratulations by the way, incredible job) would be impossible in the US. Your law enforcement and government doesn't work like ours. Yours actually listens.

Logistically it would be impossible to plug all the holes. Ports are only able to check a very small portion of container ships and cargo, diplomatic pouches are illegal to check, try explaining to people that all their mail will be stopped and checked at the border.

I can't see it happening here. But great job, it's an impressive achievement.

I hate to tell you this, but the distribution channel in the U.S. is the USPS. eBay falls under Chinese law. In affect, they are advertising the sale. As in the car example I gave, all of the cars illegal to sell in the U.S. may be advertised at will in any country that will allow it regardless of their acceptability to the U.S. laws.

They don't run for election. I don't want to turn this into politics, but anybody who runs for national public office has already turned a deaf ear.

Not trying to squabble, RLM, but the laws are already on the books!

This may be applicable for retail outlets...

    18 U.S.C. § 473 : Dealing in counterfeit obligations or securities
Whoever buys, sells, exchanges, transfers, receives, or delivers any false, forged, counterfeited, or altered obligation or other security of the United States, with the intent that the same be passed, published, or used as true and genuine, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.

Pursuant to Chinese manufacturers, please see:

    18 U.S.C. § 470 : Counterfeit acts committed outside the United States
A person who, outside the United States, engages in the act of -
    (1) making, dealing, or possessing any counterfeit obligation or other security of the United States; or
    (2) making, dealing, or possessing any plate, stone, analog, digital, or electronic image, or other thing, or any part thereof, used to counterfeit such obligation or security, if such act would constitute a violation of section 471, 473, or 474 if committed within the United States, shall be punished as is provided for the like offense within the United States.

One last that does address foreign coins. No one in the U.S. can legally manufacturer/counterfeit foreign coins. Likewise, foreign governments can pass similar laws in their own countries (like China) [in reciprocity] to protect U.S. coinage. So, RLM's example of the Auto Industry is not an analogue example.

    18 U.S.C. § 489 : Making or possessing likeness of coins

Whoever, within the United States, makes or brings therein from any foreign country, or possesses with intent to sell, give away, or in any other manner uses the same, except under authority of the Secretary of the Treasury or other proper officer of the United States, any token, disk, or device in the likeness or similitude as to design, color, or the inscription thereon of any of the coins of the United States or of any foreign country issued as money, either under the authority of the United States or under the authority of any foreign government shall be fined under this title.

And just who is going to enforce that? Are we going to send the FBI over to China to arrest the counterfeiters? We have no more chance of getting our law enforcement into China than you are going to let Chinese enforcement to enforce their laws in America.
