I really don't look much for error coins but this stood out like a sore thumb last night in some of my change. I think it is?
You are correct but the correct term is an incomplete planchet. It has a curved clip. There are several different types of clips. Congratulations on your find and it pays to check that change.
Thanks CN, Yes, I remember now that you clarified it for me. Is it straight curved and bow tie?Regards.
There are curved clips which are the most common. You can also get multiple clips such as this: Then there are straight clips and ragged clips. The now tie is not a planchet. It is from the sheet that planchets are made from.
This is what the sheet or roll looks like. It shows how a single, double or triple curved clip is made. It also shows the ragged edge clip on the left and a straight clip on the edge of the sheets are produced. Hopes this helps and be sure to save as a reference.
That is a nice error coin, in a nice AU condition. I would quess it has been recently returned to circulation. Very cool find!
Yes, for a 1979, it looks in pretty good condition. Thanks all for your comments and visuals. Regards.
