Has anyone heard of or seen such a thing as a black beauty Indian head nickel.. Well I have on and it’s not your normal “dirty coin” kind of black.. Just looking to see if this is rare or an odd error or if it everyone is just gonna tell me it’s dirty lol.. Here’s a few pic an thank you for any help..
No such thing...black beauties were found on the platchets of the 50's and 60's nickels...not the teens ,twenties, and thirties....that is damage ,or environmental issues. If you never seen a nickel that has made a trip though the human digestive system other than the damaged by hits and sratches it looks a lot like yours.
The dark toning is an environmental issue rather than a mint issue. Buffalo nickels are very well known to have some pretty wild toning, toning if left unchecked will eventually turn black. Here is a terminally toned Bust half. And a near terminally toned Buffalo. Could be considered by some as terminal toning.
Nope.. It definitely is. I have metal detected plenty of Buffalo Nickels that look like yours. And the answers the others have given are also correct.
Whats sort of funny I have a nephew who did have a nickel travel though....it was lucky his sister was there to help him from choking. But it went down not out. LoL my sister checking each time to see if it passed.....and the stomach acid turns nickel copper that color in just one trip.
To me terminal means a place to catch a bus, plane or train. It also means your going to die do so I’m not sure in this case.
I hope that my near majority of coins stay stable, and so far they have. There are a rare few that I have intentionally toned, both the coins above I bought as is.
Ill take any and all CBH's that look like that 1812.... that nice and crusty and I like CBH's that looks like that... the buffalo is terminal
