What is the difference between a cud and a retained cud?

It doesn't show up on Cuds in coins.
They are labelled there as pre cuds.

Hey, @Amberlarry22 I am more inclined to agree with the Other Frank.
Retained Cuds have an offset to the design.
Look for the separation either on the surface or a crack going thru the rim to the obverse.

    That’s a lamination and it’s a nice one.
