It looks vaguely familiar. It's very satiny. On one side there are a bunch of guys with a flag. The other side has has a globe and a bird and an anchor. Just received it yesterday. I think I remember ordering a coin like this many, many, many, many months ago. Mighty fine looking coin, though. I'm glad it finally arrived.
It is an amazingly beautiful coin, although.. I've always wondered why it took so many Marines to put a flag pole up j/k
The Flag rasing at Iwo Jima was actualy an attempt to not let if fall during the battle. The Marines who performed this task did so at great harm to themselves and a combat photographer captured the image that is famous Worldwide....I do not recall the photographers name( Joe Rosenthal??) nor the Marines for that fact, but it is revered USMC symbol! F.Y.I. That was the SECOND flag raised on Mt. Suribachi, the first was too small to be seen clearly from the beaches below. I also got some mystery coins today. They were all mounted in some kind of holder and they all seemed to be shiny and frosty at the same time. It said '2005' on all of them and one coin had some kind of military theme while another had some Marshall dude on there. I remember ordering something like that in August...
When I sell I don't take anything but MO or check...that doesn't make someone bad...it just means that they don't trust either PayPal or a credit card... Speedy
CoinSwede, I also got a Marshall dude a while back. Don't hear as much about them, but it's a fine looking coin, too. Glad yours arrived okay.
FYI, I just received my USMC dollar and I will be returning it. It has a unbalanced tone on the obverse (UNC type). Also, one of the individuals raising the flag was a U.S. Navy corpsman.
Three cheers for that Corpsman..after all the USMC is a "Deparment of the Navy" I know many fine Corpsman that without their dedication, there would be many many more "dead Marines"! RickieB SALUTE!!
