Elizabeth II has been The Queen for 70 years. I never met her, I don't know who she was as a person (and I don't care), she was the incarnation of eternal England. Her official burial will be a special moment for many people, not only the British. For one day London will be the capital of the world: Kings, queens, emperors and empresses, presidents, dictators, prime ministers, and so many official representatives of nearly all countries will be there. It will be like any funeral in every family, but the family is Mankind and the friends and cousins who came to attend are not persons but nations. This English royal funeral will be the continuation of a 1000 years old tradition. In my opinion, had she been the reigning monarch in the early 1770's there would not have been an American Revolution.
Of course, I agree. If people are going out of their way to insult the Queen online on the day that she died, then that is in poor taste to say the least. I'm not defending those people, and I'm not even saying that she deserves criticism for anything, I'm just speaking in generalities when it comes to these perspectives. I tend to think philosophically about pretty much everything and feel that it makes for interesting conversation. I can't seem to effectively learn the lesson that most people do not agree with this sentiment One thing that I can't quite get my head around is the weird obsession that people, particularly Americans, have with the British Royal Family, whose "status" is entirely ceremonial. Honestly, although I've probably seen hundreds of pictures and videos of Elizabeth and Charles doing various things, I don't even know what their voices sound like! They seemingly just stroll around waving and sitting there during various functions looking dignified. Why would anybody develop a personal connection with that kind of thing? I think it all must come down to fairytale-type fantasies and a straight-up need for hero-worship. Caring about what the Royal Family is doing is no different than caring about what the Kardashians are doing in my opinion, it's just weird. In any case, having an emotional response over the death of a 96-year-old woman, on the other side of the planet, that you've never met, and that lived an extraordinary life by any standard is a bit strange. Hell, be happy for her, we should all be so lucky!
Hi All, To quote the former King Farouk of Egypt: The whole world is in revolt. Soon there will be only five Kings left -- the King of England, the King of Spades, The King of Clubs, the King of Hearts, and the King of Diamonds. I guess it is how one defines the word criticize. Does anyone believe there does not exist an "army" of haters out there today on our great social media? They don't have any desire to discuss anything, only spew hate and negativity. Disagree with them and they will hate you also.
I met her as a post-graduate student. She was partron of ouf student hall (London House) and came to visit. My wife and our newborn daughter were also there. The queen asked when our daughter was born and said that she must be the youngest resident of the student hall. Anyway I took pictures with my old camera with a real film only to find out later that the film had not transported and I had like 36 pictures on one photo. Anyway the Queen was really nice RIP
