How should I (or should I?) go about getting this green goo off? Acetone is my best guess as of right now. It has been like this since I got it, so I don’t know what’s underneath. Thanks to everyone in advance!

I don't think it matters. It is unlikely acetone will get the green verdigris off.

Try this thread to see if it helps.

You can use verdicare but I am not sure it is worth it. You can hardly see the date.

Sorry, you are starting with nothing. The coin is worn to death. If there is a certified “poorest known”, you are there, but I don’t understand that market.

I got it out of a seven-dollar-each box at a coin show, so I’ve not got much in it.

I know it’s not much, but I was just wondering if there was a way to get the gunk off

Verdi care is probably the best.

Reread your title. A dip will only make the coin, including the green, shine brighter. Best not to dip.

Sorry, that doesn’t sound like I wanted it too. I meant more of an acetone thing.

Acetone might remove some of it but if any of that green stays it will take over the coin in time.

Oh, a dip is more of an E-zest thing.

Ok, thanks! I’ll try acetone as soon as I get some, then!

Do not use fingernail acetone. You need industrial strength. The fingernail acetone will permanently take the finish off of the coin. Industrial acetone will not.

Acetone will have no effect on that, it won't remove any of it.

Verdi-Care is the only thing that will have any effect on it, and even Verdi-Care will only remove some of it. When verdigris is that heavy on a coin you can almost never get all of it off without harming or doing damage to the coin. Even the guy who makes Verdi-Care will tell you that.
