Interesting. The character 中 just left of the crown looks as it it were scribed rather than chopped. I don't think I've seen that before. Here are my 2 my chopped 8 reales:
Ive seen that mark before.. I cannot recall where... but yes I agree looks more inscribed than a stamp. I bet with a little research you could find it.
It's the character for "middle" and "China". It's used for one of the three dragons in Mahjong, but also a bunch of other places, including the name for China (中國).
Yes you rang my bell on a Mahjong tile....I sort of have a photograph memory....it may take another stimulate to recall...but I guess thats why Im good at varieties as dates and mint marks dont alway stick...but shapes, places, items gives me hints to go on....then its refence to follow up on . As I've often been asked how I can remember so many varieties? Well actully I dont.... some yes most by association or stimulant shape ,series. That may sound strange but like some find it difficult to remember names... Paul & Susan = Salt &Pepper....yeah to some may sound stupid but it works. I recall taking an course on osteology. To remember the bones in a numan hand we had a saying.... Never lower Tillys pants grand ma may come home. Using the 1st letter in each word one can remember all the bones....but yeah thats exactly where I know that marking.
