Bought this as part of a group from David Hall about 30 years ago. The dip residue has toned over the years and left these marvelous stains. Is this covered under the PCGS guarantee (lol)? :banghead:  :spitoutdummy:

Thanks for the post, but it feels wrong to "like" it. That's a real shame.

It goes to show that not all Old Green Label (OGL) coins are good.

I’ve been burned on this a few times. One time PCGS made good on it after I posted pictures on their site. You might try that.

Thanks. I posted it in a "Show your peace dollar" thread over there. It's been toned like this for quite some time. I have another Peace from the same lot that isn't as bad but still stained. Back in the 90s (pre ebay) I used to do mail order and bought some group lots of Peace and Morgans from David Hall. These didn't sell right away and then I noticed the staining, so they just ended up sitting around. I wonder how many of the other dollars turned in the holders?

I'm just hanging on to it as a novelty. It's was fun to show it at coin club meetings

Remember those were the days that blast white ruled, so dipping ruined a lot of coins. Now toning is in favor and we have coins ruined by the mad scientists doing AT. Oh well, better living through chemistry

Just goes to show that if you dip you must throughly rinse.

Sometimes that’s the only option when the dip residue is damaging the coin.

It's a common Peace dollar that Greysheets for about $45, so no conservation on this one. I get more mileage from using it as a show and tell piece. Shows that TPGs aren't perfect.

Liking the post, but I agree with jeffB.
I have no doubt that dealers did this a lot to get the high grade, and
probably were not even aware that this would spot inside the holder years later.
