Still sorting through to see what I got. Condition of many of these is poor, but I see some German States pre-1870, some Notgeld, and a bunch of 1800s coppers. Also a Japan occupation Korea 1 Yen note. No serial number on the lower right, so I assume this is the 1944 rather than the 1932. These were from an unsorted bag recently recently sold to the shop, so I think I may have been the first customer to pick over them. Cheap and fun way to waste an hour.
Nice pick ups! I got a good deal on 5lbs of world coins and tokens I spent half of today going through. Added some pieces to my exonumia collection and the rest are being listed in Numista as swap fodder!
Looks like a good buy. I think I see a German WWI Poland occupation coin there, and those are interesting. I also went to my LCS yesterday. Someone had just bought all their foreign junk bin coins, but they found other stuff for me to dig through and I did well. It's my favorite way to buy coins.
I recently bit the bullet and bought a 2.5 pound bag of foreign coins through one of the online coin shops. I figured I'd never break even on it, it was just for fun and to try and get a few new countries for the collection. It turned out to be a decent value (based on the values at numista) afterall so I was extra excited. It was a fun few days exploring the loot and getting them in the database. Down the road if my daughter picks up the coin bug I'll probably grab one for her, great way to hide some education behind a bag of fun...
Glad you got a good selection! I haven't had great luck with bulk coins--to many modern UK 1 and 2 pence etc to be interesting. But it only takes one or two interesting finds to make it worth it sometimes. Some sellers have much more interesting random distributions than others.
Here's the list. I think I've IDed everything except the Rathskeller token. Some of the dates are unreadable, but I have a pretty clear guess for most of them. Will post some individual photos after I sort and crop the images. Edit: I've changed it from a PDF to 2 pages of images so you don't need to download a file to see anything.
Here's the WW1 1 Kopeck German occupation token. It's not as worn as I had feared, but being iron, the surfaces tend to get pretty grody in 100+ years. This is my second one of these, but for 10 cents I'm always happy to get a duplicate. Now I have both of the mint marks. Top: Recent pickup--J (Hamburg) Bottom: Earlier, non-junk bin--A (Berlin)
There are 4 varieties of 1908 so it's a good year for a possible rarity. This is a Freeman 166 which is the most common.
A few more pics of some of the more interesting ones. Any German States in a 10 cent bin I will definitely snatch up, though I rarely get the opportunity! Aachen 1 Grosche = 10 Pfennige 1920 (Notgeld) Anhalt 1864 A 3 Pfennige Reuss-Schleiz 1858 A 3 Pfennige Saxony-Albertine 1864 B 2 Pfennige
