    That's a fair price for a '42-D in 66.

    Steve,

You paid $60 for that Jefferson. While compared to the price guides it appears that you got a great deal, you purchased the coin sight unseen with only a blurry photo of the obverse to judge the quality of the coin. If you get the coin and it is a low end MS66, I wouldn't think your deal is that great.

It might be to your advantage to start searching Heritage for Jefferson Nickels. The average auction price realized for the MS66 1942-D on Heritage over the last few years has been $40-$45 which would correlate to low $50's with shipping.

In addition, the 1942-D is one of the better struck Jefferson Nickels. Did you know that you can get a 1942-D MS66 FS for about $80?

Boy, do I feel sheepish. I just recently bought one that was full step. I was so focused on the coin and the price, that I failed to notice that THIS ONE wasn't a FS coin! :headbang:

Oh well...still a nice coin for the money I think. It will be good to own when the economy firms up.

Thanks for the Heritage link. It's good info, and I might try to enter an auction or too in the future if the right item pops up.
