This is a doozey... I bought a 1/4 rupee coin on e-bay supposedly from a seller in Gujarat, India. There was a $10 shipping charge that gave me some pause, but I really wanted the coin, so I did it. Coin comes in from Indiana (not India) in an envelope with a single "forever" stamp and marked "Postage Due - $24" marked out and then $3.90!!! So I had to pay $3.90 to rescue it though I haven't opened it yet. What is the best way to deal with this? Open to suggestions.
Definitely contact the seller and say you aren't satisfied and explain the circumstances. If they don't resolve it, open a return request with eBay and they will likely side in your favor. Hopefully the seller will pay for the additional cost. Most eBay sellers care a LOT about their feedback score.
Wow Hate to say this...but purchased a great walking stick brass and rose wood from India $25.00 free ship got it in 7 day even with customs. Message him and threatened to report him for mail fraud. Definitely report him to ebay....
I'd contact the buyer and ask why they charged me $10.00 for shipping to then receive it with postage due, with a simple envelope with a $0.52 stamp on it? I'd then demand a refund of $6.50 for the overcharge on shipping.
I would contact Ebay and see about refunding the excess shipping costs. I used to ship coins with a stamp but I didn't charge for shipping.
I used to ship coins with a stamp too. Until an eBay buyer lies about never receiving it. I only use First Class w/tracking now, even though it costs $3-4 more.
With all the issues these days with the USPS your a fool to try and ship anything of value without tracking. For the last 2 months I have been dealing with a postal inspector. Over stolen, mis directed mail, and other issues. The inspectors don't play...as well they shouldn't.
I shipped a coin a sold for $14 with tracking but it didn't stop the post office from losing it. I haven't sold on Ebay for years because of that.
You dont want to know my postal issues...like having a pkg. Within <20 miles from my home to end up in Indianapolis 700 miles west of me then back another 700 miles...to my home...makes sense...duh.
OK, my mistake. E-bay sent me a notification that the item had been delivered, so I jumped to the conclusion that what was in the mail came from that particular seller...different dealer...my package from India arrived the next day!!!
