Actually, it was only in 2001 that the major US financial markets switched from bits (1/8) to decimal. https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/why-nyse-switch-fractions-to-decimals/
I'd like to hear what @eddiespin has to say about this. What say you Mr Ed, have we used bits in this country within the last 200 years? 100 years? 50 years? Last year? Today even?
German Silver. I had a piece marked as .999 fine German Silver with the word “GERMAN” very small. It’s an alloy of copper-nickel and has 0% silver in it.
Yeah, I didn't know what he meant by that, either. It's how they steer us. Of course I don't need it, they just get on me and let me go. The bit is just so they can hang onto the reins and don't fall off. I always hate it when they fall off. After the race is over I always come back to see if they're OK.
I know I'm late to this party, but there are two that bug the crap out of me. "Survival rate" is one, the other is "top pop." Survival is impossible to gauge. We know in general how many were struck, but how many were lost, melted down, chopped up or whatever! We have no real idea. And top pop, is just a marketing tool pure and simple. Ok, so this is the highest graded slabbed coin, nobody knows if theres another out there better but hey for this moment this is the best someone paid to have put in a plastic coffin. Another thing is those "first strike" and other gimmicky tags in slabs. Theres pictures of Kennedy, or whatever. Pure marketing.
If a dude did it, It would be better centered, because, like, then it would be worth more money, like.
Bit c.1900 US Army My grandfather was in the cavalry Thrown by a government horse, he lost most of his hearing
Zincoln...people use it like it is some derogatory term for zinc cents, which I don't understand. Denominational currency is collectable despite metal composition. I certainly see more people putting down zinc cents than I do see gold collectors putting down silver ones. In fact, it is those zinc cents that get many into our hobby. Lastly, those suckers, depending on the dates, are extremely difficult to collect in gem grades. Ok, off my soap box and back to my collecting...oooo look! A 1972 P cent! Score!
