I have never gotten one in change. Very scarce in this area! Probably will take years for the unc. business strikes to move much but do think the satins and proofs will be winners very quickly. Give it a year and we will see.

let me ask a dumb question... are the coins minted for the unc. set counted in the general mint numbers?? because the only way that you can get true mint state coins from the mint is to buy them in the two roll sets. true?-- all of the coins from the unc sets are a different finish. therefore are not true unc coins!!!!!!!!

the rolls sets 4U8 will go up!!!!!!

    unc nickles

I believe the mint rolls and the bank rolls all start in the same big metal bin after being struck, but I may be wrong. and yes the mint set coins are a different strike this year, so I doubt they are included in circulation numbers. I would be curius to know if past year mint set coins were included in the count.

You can get a UNC coin from change in one way...technically you can't....only from BU rolls/mint sets/ and the like....but as long as a coin doesn't show wear it is UNC...maybe MS60 but it is still UNC...

False....you can get rolls at the bank for face value and they are UNC...you can get bags from the mint and they are UNC....many ways...

Yes they are. In the past - there has never been a separate mintage number issued by the US Mint for mint sets. There are however sales numbers for mint sets. But - since coins for mint sets are struck on different presses and with higher striking pressures - they are not the same as the coins issued for circulation. So on a technical basis - you could say they have a separate mintage number.

But you must also remember that this has not always been the case. There was a time when the coins sold in the annual mint sets came right from the circulation strike coins. But for the life of me I can't tell ya what year it was that they changed - perhaps cladking will remember.

Now this year - since the mint sets are all satin finish - only God and the US Mint knows how they will decide to track the mintage numbers. It's simply never happened before.

I get tons of these in change... in fact where I work as a cashier I've broken open several rolls that were nothing but these. Living in the Denver suburbs probably has something to do with that I guess; being so close to the mint we're on the first stop as far as distribution goes.

Like Troodon, I live in Colorado, and also have a pocketful of the new coins daily. In addition, my bank supplies me with all I request.

As I prepare for bed this Sunday night, I look at the contents of my pocket, and find I have the following in shiny new 2005 coins:

    2 Oregon quarters
    4 Kansas quarters
    8 Lincoln cents.
    2 Ocean In View nickels.

However I've still yet to see any West Virginia quarters, lol... I remember breaking open a roll of quarters that was full Kansas quarters, less than a week after the mint released them, so I'm wondering what's taking so long on the WV's.

Mass, Arkansas and Tenn Quarters Unc in bank rolls

I went to local Wal-Mart yesterday morning and picked up the above three unc bank orange-wrapped P mint rolls. I got them from the Wal-Mart office where you have to return purchases. I saw one of the ladies crack a roll of Arkansas Quarters in her register. She said of course they use these rolls to supply their cashiers, and she really wasn't supposed to give me the stores change. I bought her a Big Mac for lunch. (I gave her the money as a thank you) She told me lots of folks come in and ask her for new quarters for their children's quarter maps. She told me the same people come in all the time wanting new quarters. She also had LA and MD unc orange bank-wrapped rolls. Do you suppose some banks have been holding back on us and have hoarded older unc quarters? I don't know why? Maybe stacked up in a corner somewhere that they issue to a business and not to the general public. Stored in 50 or 100 roll boxes sealed or taped-up or something. This particular Wal-Mart had a zipper bank-bag of about 20 older dated unc bank wrapped quarter rolls. Thanks, Jim

Stores need coins, but they don't much care which ones. I keep plastic wrapped rolls of coins in my car in case of an emergency. Store might not want to sell their rolls, but I find they're often willing to trade rolls if they see that I'm not trying to slip them a "short" roll or a roll of slugs.

They made far fewer satin finish buffalos than business strikes. The satins are the ones to own.
