Found a lot of die cracks and breaks in this box. This one has an unusual die crack on the obverse. An unexpected place and shape perhaps? Also, a fisher-type anomaly above some damage on the obverse. Anyway, just wanted to share. Would have loved to have found it before it was damaged!
You certainly do have some die cracks there. But the last photo in the first set is damage IMHO. Die cracks are almost always associated with the rims or devices, not on their own in an open field.
Yes, that last photo appears to have a defective planchet, the split in the metal. But under that you can see metal that has been displaced from whatever hit the coin in that area.
I know, that is the "anomaly". I knew it was damage below it but the "fisher" above that was in question. There is no push-out around it, just an elongated hole?
Yes as I just explained to tommyc03. Thank you. So it is a defective planchet. Makes since because a die could never do that. You get the Best Answer!
Is this one collectible? Or too damaged? I didn't get any thoughts on that Die crack on the obverse. I've never seen one there before. Seems this coin is very unique.
Is it collectable? Depends. If collectable = worth something? Then no If collectable = I think it looks cool? Then by all means save it
@Coppertop I just have to say this as it took me all day to figure out what the “fisher” was. I fisher is someone that tries to catch fish. I fissure is what you are referring to. I’ll admit, I did laugh but only because it took me so long to figure it out. Lol
