I won't say how big, you can go to ebay and see the completed sale. It is a raw 1807 capped bust half dollar. Small stars variety. Photographed through a 2x2. From what I can see the coin looks nice. Now the edge of my seat wait for this to get here. What do you think of it @okbustchaser

It looks nice, but the market value is somewhere in the VF-20 range. The star detail makes it look higher grade, but the main devices are consistent with a lower end VF.

It does look nice...personally I would not of purchased it from the image in the 2x2....something looks a miss.... the wear looks strange to my eye. I hope I am incorrect... as I do have some Bust halves but they aren't on my radar as much as other series.

Yes I currently own a f15 cac small stars. It is nice but has an old cleaning. It is old but evident. This one is a touch nicer looking. I know where the price guide is at for the most part. And I came in under for the grade. Sometimes issues aren't noticeable in a 2x2. That's what I hated about the no returns. But this is one of my favorite varieties.

I think that for what you paid you did well--TPG F money for what I would call a VF coin. I like it.

@Paddy54, the strange look of Liberty' cheek is quite common on 1807-08 halves. It is an artifact of the design and part of the reason the design was changed in 1809.

I look at these coins all the time. I have been watching and looking at this variety for a couple years now. You seldom see any that don't have obvious cleanings graffiti. This variety is fairly scarce. I wouldn't have done this on any other coin.

Yes that makes me feel a bit better. The surfaces were my main concern. And I don't see any issues. I think the patina is pretty even and consistent. I figured it would go right in the range of where I won it at. I was a bit higher on my last second bid. I was hoping i would get it for about 100 less. But it landed where I estimated. And yes I estimate pcgs will likely give it VF20

To be honest thats not my issue with the coin...its the wear over both sides. As I said not a huge collector of the series, and will bow to those who do know it better. And to be honest the first glance I had no issues it was studying the images and wear pattern is my biggest concern.
But again not my coin just my opinion and may very well be the case of not knowing the series as you and others. But I appreciate your input to learn something new.

Please understand as again not in my wheelhouse as a series... and the wear pattern may be legit... it just looks strange to my eye. And I too have taken a few shots in the dark over the years buying a coin that images are not the best. ...sometimes you get lucky....sometimes you dont...I know you'll post a better image once recieved...looking forward to seeing it. My oldest bust half is an 1810....my 1st coin in my collection is an 1812.
Which my father pulled out of a bill he collected the first year he worked for the Fed. in 1930's money as thats the time he started as a runner...that fifty cents was a lot of money.
So in 1933 money that .50 pc would be $11.40 a 2179.0% rate of inflation

Oh yes I will definitely remove it from that 2x2 prison and get good pictures. I examined the sellers other completed auctions. He had sold several bust halves recently in 2x2. There were some cleaned ones. You could tell through the 2x2. I don't think there's any trickery. I messaged him and asked if there were any scratches or other things I can't see in the pictures and he said no. I have his message. If it comes scratched I'll use that as leverage to get a return.

This did happen recently. Ibought a coin, not in a 2x2. Was scratched all up when it got here. That one got returned. I believe the seller adjusted the contrast to hide it in the pictures.

I'm at VF. I bet the coin will look much better out of that old holder.

Looks like a nice coin to me. Will you send it in to a TPG?

That is the plan. I have a few others to send in. Pcgs is taking at least 3 months to get them back. My submission received May 17 is still there. I send everything to PCGS and everything i send in gets gold shield added so they get truview imaging. This one would get it regardless because it's value is over 300.

I believe that it is... I had it on the holded but just snapped a quick photo.
I'll never sell it...will pass it on to my nephew to keep it in the family.

It was delivered to the pobox yesterday and no surprise, I had to work real late... but it was worth the wait. This coin came straight. Probably never risk so much on a no return auction like I did here again. But definitely worth it this time.
