1942/1 D Mercury Dime?

Recently bought this, so I can't get more pictures until it arrives, but I saw a few things that caught my eye. If you look at the date, there appears to be (relatively deep) die scratches around the 1 and the 9. I've poured over a large number of 1941/2 pictures, and a few really high quality pieces look to have the same scratches in the same area. The mintmark to be in the right location, but I wasn't able to tell if it was the proper RPM with the pictures in the listing. The doubling on the designer's initials seemed to be on point as well.

Let me know what you think; looking forward to receiving it so I can provide better pictures.

I was wondering if it was possible the glare/camera angle was obscuring the digits underneath; I've never seen one in person. Do you at least see the similarities in the die scratches? Curious what they're from, just looked a bit like effacement marks on other overdates

Did the seller represent this as a 42/1 D?

What is it supposed to be, it's not anything close to a 42/1, maybe I'm missing something.

That’s a nice looking 1942-D Mercury Dime. But that’s all it is. No overdate. Not even close to being one.

    It’s close. It’s just off by 1.

He’s got the full middle band, that easily doubles the price.

Well, that thread is the still-unbeaten benchmark for "cherry-pick"...

    I don't think so. Here's mine:

Agreed, definitely not a 42/1. This variety is quite obvious when you see one. Sorry, there's nothing there.

I really don't see that on the op's coin. However it is pretty obvious on the W on my coin. I had never noticed it before!

The 42/41 is one of those anomalies that is so glaringly obvious that even I can see it with my aged eyes. This one is my example.

The overdate on the Mercury Dime is in high demand and it has a fascinating history as to how it occurred. In essence, it’s a mint error, not an overdate as two separate dies were used.
