My wife found this Kennedy 12 where only one side is stamped. There is no other side, the coin resembled a normal Kennedy except is as if the other side was never affixed to it. The coin has the one side and the rim, picture the cap of a glass jar. Not knowing how coins are actually minted, we are wondering if this is something made to resemble a coin or if it is in fact a minting error. I tried to take pics a minute ago but I have insuffienct light to get an adequate picture. Thanks in advance, Rags
It sounds like you have half of a magician's coin. A half dollar is hollowed out, and either a different denomination or most usually, another "heads" side is made so that it will be a 2 headed coin. Though I can't be for sure without a picture, that is what it sounds like to me. Definitely, post mint damage.
Not the best pictures but the best I cold take with the camera and be close enough to see anything: http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn46/remlingp/Picture876.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn46/remlingp/Picture877.jpg Thank you!
