I wish I had the money (and knowledge) to play those games. $1,340 in one week ain't too bad, but as of now, he/she is still dreaming that it is a quick flip. It is just his asking price and has not sold yet.
MBT, This sort of thing happens ALL the time! Hardly news worthy and only shows how uninformed and misguided some buyers are if it actually sells. Plenty of dealers buy on HA, and resell on eBay to clueless/careless buyers and they regularly jack up the prices. Just goes to show you have to do your homework and that the educated consumer makes safer buying decisions.

Most knowledgeable buyers will check auction records and this will stick out like a sore thumb. If it just sold at auction for $2500, that is what it is worth.
He paid $300 back of bid, is asking $500 over Numsimedia and $800 over Coin Values, it's in an ANACS holder. He might break even after turning down all the high $2k/low $3k offers in the next 30 days and sitting on it for the next 2 years.
That ain't nothin! Look at this one (originally posted ATS): Heritage Sale: $2,883.05 (Jan 7th, 2010) http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1136&Lot_No=3478&src=pr Crack out and sell on eBay for $6,600.00 (April 1st, 2010) http://cgi.ebay.com/1873-CC-US-Halves-Seated-Liberty-Half-Dollar_W0QQitemZ230451480964QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item35a7fa8984<BR> Ref shots:
Sad as it is, there are many buyers that are only in this for the quick buck. If we keep getting the word out there about them, as i stated in an earlier post , maybe we will save one collector from getting ripped off. As most say here, buy the book before the coin, or better yet buy the book, before buying the book:hammer: Regards, Stan
That's a nice tidy profit. Definitely looks like the same coin. You have to be nuts to spend that kind of money on an uncertified coin in an online auction.
I have even seen it on heritage. The coin sold at long beach for like 550 and within a week was re-listed with a buy it now at 750, then sold at 700. For some reason they turned down my 550 offer.
Funny you should mention Long Beach. Several of the Dan Holmes coins from last year are periodically listed on Ebay at about a 50% premium from the already high prices realized at that auction. That moves them WAY out of my price range.
Thats where pedigree inflates price. You could buy the same coin just as nice or nicer without the name attached for 1/4 the price any day. Granted there were some pieces of that collection that are the finest known, but I seriously doubt those are the pieces being peddled at Ebay. Guy~
True but as far as I can tell they aren't selling. Actually a lot of them ARE the Condition Census pieces. Frankly though it's more like th way Jay Parrino used to work it. Buy some top end rarities, a month or two later start advertising them with glossy brochures at ridiculous price markups. hen they disappear and you find out later that he sold them for a nice markup but a fraction of the prices in the brochure. The Brochure was just to attract attention to himself and quality rarities he handed.
