The VDB is raised on the die and in a shallow area. It sometimes get polished off the die. The 1989's are well known for this but it happens in other years as well. Typically it has no value but for awhile they managed to hype the 89's up to the $10 to $15 range before people lost interest and they drop to next to nothing.

Is there any years for Wheats without VDB on the obverse that are mint errors?

Its the only one I have. Found it in Bank Roll change. You have to target the ones you want and go search.

Looks to me like it was just rubbed off over time.

Sell it on ebay, you'll get something for it.

Your coin looks like it's been either erasered or whizzed.

This is a 10 year old thread, but it is around 100% your coin is just a penny.
    Post a photo.
When they put the VDB on the obverse at the bottom of the jacket (I want to say after 1917) those letters are on the die that mints the coins.
For it to be an error it would have to be struck with a die that didn't have those letters. Which might be possible but highly unlikely. And there would be a known error and hundreds of thousands of coins that were struck with that die would all have that known error. So you can see it is most likely something else.

First, welcome to the neighborhood, Tamara!

In spite of the fact that this thread is 10 years old, it would help if you posted photos of your penny, especially a close-up of the designer's initials. ~ Chris

Thanks for your help. Since this was my first time to this site, I don't know how to insert the photos into the message. Any suggestions?

Go to Forums and pick the one that applies. Next is new post. Enter a thread title and then your message. For photo, it’s upload a file. Make sure the photos are cropped to get rid of the background. Once they are loaded into your message just hit the button to insert full size. Lastly it hit the blue button to post a thread. Sorry I didn’t respond faster but it’s been a busy day. I’m headed to bed now which is early for me. Good luck

See what I mean about the lack of response because it’s an old thread?
