That is not a Seleucid coin, but rather a Seleucid era coin. The difference is OP was minted autonomously not under any ruler. I believe delta is year 13.
OK thank you David. I found another similiar coin on acsearch so I guess they are dated from 109 BCE minus the dated year. If you are right that delta=13 then it is about 96 BCE: Greek Silver & Bronze Coins(from acsearch) Syria, Seleucis and Pieria, Seleucia, (after 109 B.C.), issued in year 15 = 95-4 B.C., silver tetradrachm, (14.83 g), obv. veiled and turreted bust of Tyche to right, in bead and reel border, rev. thunderbolt, with fillet on cushion on stool, SELEUKEWN / THS IERAS, below KAI / AVTONOMOY, between legs of stool EI (date = 15), (S.5887, Cohen DCA 697, cf.BMC 19 [date listed] for year 13], cf.SNG Fitz. 5960, Lanz 125, [lot 488], only recorded example, HGC 9, 1382). Toned, good very fine, very rare.Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 63 (lot 3611). Leu Numismatik sold a similar condition example of year 13, on 26 February 2022 (lot 1631) for 2400 SFr.
I looked at a CNG description which is wrong So I looked it up in a reference and it is year 4, which makes sense. The city was declared free in 109, so that puts the year at 106/105. Sorry for the confusion.
How do I date this? I never dated a Tyche, but I'm an open-minded man so why not, after all? I'm just afraid my wife would notice the incense smell on me when I come home at 3 AM.
Received this coin finally from Germany. The silver seems quite debased. From the easy research I did it might be 80% or less silver content. I used the rare earth magnet test. Has anyone else exprienced this with these late era Seleucid coinage?
