So I bought a metal detector last night on craigslist. I decide to show the kids how to use it. We are checking around my backyard and on my front lawn. We find about $1.76 in modern change, and a '64 silver dime. We are about to wrap it up because its getting dark, and it goes off again. I dig about 6-8" down and this is what I found! I know it's not a coin, but stil la nice find. I am taking it to the coin/jewelry shop at lunch to see if its real. All signs point to yes! Bad picture, but it is very antique looking "art deco" style with 17 diamonds. The metal is non magnetic, so I assume its a precious metal, probably silver.
Remember that diamonds are seldom perfect. Use a loupe and look inside the diamonds for little pieces of coal. If you see some, thats one of the indicators that they are real.
I will know in an hour if its worth anything. I cant believe I can be so lucky. Win money in Keno (which paid for the metal detector) and find a diamond ring the same day? haha no chance!
Quick buy a Lottery ticket while your luck is still up!!! j/k Congrats on the find i look forward to seeing if it is real.
Well good luck with it. If it is worth something that's some crazy luck...I bet your kids are wanting to borrow it now
The detector is called a Garret Treasure Ace 300 Crossfire II. I don't know anything about detectors, but I paid $80 for it on craigslist.
Not a good idea, thats how I found out my neighbor has invisible fence . Check the back (behind the diamonds) if you can see the stone through the hole, probably real stones. If no hole, probably not. Congrats on the find!
**UPDATE** Well it turned out to be a copper ring with fake diamonds. Thats ok though! there is plenty of treasure to be found!
Still an awesome take for your first time out... First time I went metal detecting in my backyard, all I found was rusty nails and bottle caps!
