My 1830 half dime has EF details, but has a possible pit on the top of her head...can anyone tell me how much it's worth and how pitting effects the value?
It's hard to tell without seeing the coin , and how big the pit is and how it affects eye appeal . How about a picture . rzage
Boy I wished I knew how to upload a picture... I just took a picture of it, but can't seem to do it....oh boy....
Don't feel to bad , either can I , THERE ARE THREADS ON UPLOADING PICS try here http://www.cointalk.com/t8567/#post847604 . rzage
How does "pitting" effect the grade of a coin? If the details are VF but there are pits in the field how would you grade the coin?
Pitting is damage , and any damage will lower the grade and value of a coin , how much depends on size , location and effect on eye appeal , some damage will render a coin ungradable by the top tpgs . rzage
So are you telling me that an older uncirculated coin that has pitting can no longer be considered uncirculated even if it's never been circulated?
