I posted one I bought earlier this year several months ago. I knew I had one but figured the ex stole it with most of my collection. I just found it. It’s a Kentucky Token, named for the K which is at the top of the pyramid. Each of the 15 States have their letter on a star forming this pyramid. E PLURIBUS UNUM is on the obverse. The reverse has a hand holding a scroll. On the scroll is OUR CAUSE IS JUST. around the edge it reads UNANIMITY IS THE STRENGTH OF SOCIETY. The edge is plain. Varieties exist with edge lettering but this is not one of them. All of these tokens were struck in England between 1792 and 1794. This one is extra fine which is a higher grade than my other one. I’m considering having this one slab been graded so please let me hear your thoughts about that.
"All of these tokens were struck in England between 1792 and 1794." It so reminds me of Conder tokens!
That is sweet... I still looking for one for my colonial set, but I doubt it will be half as nice as either of yours
They are out there but you do have to look fairly hard to find a decent one. My other one is nice but this one is in much better condition.
I don't know these but if I felt it was something special, I would have it graded. It looks really nice. As a normal I look at the value and fees to decide but with some things I just want it in a nice holder.
This piece is not that tough in high grade. When I was a dealer, I had one in PCGS MS-63 or better, brown (I don't remember if it was 63 or 64). I paid just over a thousand for it, and found out that was too much. I finally sold it for what I had in it. The purists don't view this as a "colonial coin" or a piece that was used that much in the U.S. during the 18th or early 19th century. They call it a "Conder token" that is really more a part of the British series. These are some of the arguments I heard from some of the people who had influence over what gets into the Red Book listings. As for your piece, I think that you will get at least and EF, maybe a low end AU. The only thing that concerns me is the pit below the motto on the reverse. I think it will go through with that, but I'm not sure.
Have it graded? Sure. Why not? It will protect the token for years to come. Speaking of years to come, how is that BP now? Hope it is stabilized.
Daily it runs around 140-150/90-100 so it’s doing good. Still don’t like the medication I’m on. There are days that it’s on the higher side but only for a day and then back to my normal. Thanks for asking. How are you doing?
They are as the K is at the top. Didn’t I say that in my original post? Maybe old age is catching up to me. Naw, it’s that medication I’m on for my BP. Lol
You did, I was reading recent comments as that is where I was taken when I clicked on the recent topic, I had read the previous last night. I saw mention that they were called Condor tokens, I didn't believe that was correct. Maybe I should re-read the whole thread each time I go back to a topic, either that or not sleep between reading sessions.
The Red Book makes no mention of Condor Tokens being associated with the Kentucky Token but I would think that some dealers and people have combined them over the years.
Good days, and bad days. Emphysema is getting worse. After taking your BP, try drinking a full glass of water shortly before taking your BP again and see what it says. I was surprised when a nurse had me do that it lowered it almost immediately.
Makes me wonder if it really works to lower the BP orbit it lasts just long enough to get a lower reading. Sometimes when I take my BP it’s on the high side. So I do what a nurse had me do. Take several deep breaths and that gets it low enough I can leave. Go figure.
Sorry to hear this. My prayers go with you my friend. Hopefully you’ll have more good days than the bad ones.
