I still have a lot of holes to fill, though. I finally bought myself a Dansco and I filled in a few easy holes at the Ft Worth show. I like these folders - they look great and they're of tremendous quality. I couple of pretty pennies caught my eye - just a nice red '45 and a shiny '43-s. Sorry for the lame photos. I picked up a nice BU '44 merc to at least fill up one hole on that sole page. I actually picked this one at London Coin Galleries in Mission Viejo. I kind of spent too much than I wanted at the show so I handed in some gold and silver to keep my monthly goals in line. I did see this lowly 1915 vf20 Barber quarter. It has that classic circulated Barber look - I really like this coin. I've had the '45 Walker for years. It's just a PCGS MS64. I got the commem at the show - a souvenir of Texas. It was an NGC MS64 and I got it for a great price - $5 shy of what Redbook has it for AU-50! Now the modern crap. The Sac is an '09. My state quarter of choice is the Nevada one - I like it even though it's kinda girlie. Maybe I'll keep these all business strikes in which case I may replace it with a satin finish Alaska. I'm thinking a '59 mint set will help with a few holes, along with a silver bicentennial set. Maybe an '80 (my birthyear) for the clads, SBA. The commemorative half dollars I want are: Oregon Trail, Bay Bridge, and Connecticut. As for the modern dollar - not sure. Maybe I'll reverse-up the Franklin commem from a couple of years ago with the Continental dollar on it. That or the Smithsonian from '96(?). Aside from that I'll have to paw through dealer cases at shows. I spent a lot of time at Dick Osburn's booth but I was pretty picky with the half dollars so I didn't get anything. They were cool with me though. When I first started collecting I had some real crappy PVC laden folders for Canadian cents. Then eventually I had a Whitman folder for silver dollars and Canadian Large Cents. Those are all long gone now but I remember the excitement of filling the holes with a new coin. I got a familiar sense of that when starting this set. It'll be nothing fancy, it'll take a while to fill in, but it's fun.
Ya I love it. I am looking to see if I have some quick pics of mine. I am hoping to fill another hole this weekend from the local coin show. It has been fun working on this set. I have learned a lot about a bunch of different coins. I like that texas comm. that you have.
Nice start! I think you might want a nice brown lincoln in the cent area. I think a group of browns for Large and Small cents would be nice.
Awesome start. Just remember to take your time. IMHO, it's better to have a few fantastic coins than a boatload of stuff you wish didn't have problems. I was interested in the fact that your Dansco has a slot for the Silver Eagle coins. Mine doesn't have that page. I guess I could go out and get it. Steve
I'm pretty picky when it comes to circ stuff. I have unique experience with US coins despite having never collected em. So it'll take some time. Some of the more modern holes will be easy to fill. I was surprised there wasn't a spot for Presidential dollars, or even the America the Beautiful quarters that come out this year. Maybe they'll update that page soon, it looks like there may be room for both. For the Presidential dollar I'll probably wait until the TR one comes out.
Hello everyone, Awesome start on the book. I have been considering doing something like that but am still concentrating on type sets first. Just can not seem to put two different types of coins in a book. lol. Regards, Stan
I just bought my 7070 also and cant wait for a local show so I can get started on the coin hunt. Are you gonna try to keep the coins you put in there in certain conditions, like all MS or AU and up?
I love the 7070 sets. It's really the only album I like anymore for myself. You can put some really nice stuff in them. Good start and don't be in a rush to finish it but take time and make it one you wan to keep.
Originally I was planning for it all to be pretty much XF. I found this to be entirely too limiting because compelled me to ignore some nice lower grade coins even though they looked nice to me. On the other hand, some type coins are really really easy to find in MS grades like the coins from the 40s I have. Modern coins can just look terrible when they're circulated so I don't want to bother with them too much either. Anyway for the 19th and early 20th century issues I'll look for VF-AU. I'm sure I'll swap out some coins here and there. I'm not in a rush, but I do have an idea of what I'm looking for. I can't justify the expense of rushing it either, I'm getting married soon.
There will NEVER be any spots for those coins. The Dansco 7070 is a 20th Century Type set album. The coins you mention above are in he 21st Century - the 7071?
The 7070 isnt a 20th century type set, it is the U.S. type set. So there is a chance they will have an update page like they did for the gold coins. I was originally going to do all AU+ with my album, but some of the older coins are pretty expensive even in the VF- ranges. Rushing it would definitely mean you would be putting alot of money in it at one time, plus getting it done too quickly defeats part of the fun. Completing it over the course of a few years is my plan.
Is an awesome start! My dad and I recently started a type set, using Dansco 7070 albums, we each got one for Christmas and we aren't showing each other what we have added to it until this Christmas. But is fun in that you can put what ever coin in there you want. I too am shooting for VF to AU. Have fun!
Thats a nice start. I started my 7070 a few years back and quickly grew frustrated with it. It represents a nice selection, but by no means is complete and I wanted to attempt a complete type set. I've seen people make their own pages for this type of quest, but I'm too lazy to do that. Best of luck. Keep us posted as you add to it. It's fun to see people fill the album one nice piece at a time Guy~
.....forgot to mention, I did read somewhere that Dansco is going to put out a supplemental page that should up date the set...Pres dollar, DC/Territory quarter, 09 cents, Westward nickels etc...
