NGC and I wrote articles on these- NGC on the original "1802" seen and mine on the extended "family" of struck fakes, based on a 1799 B-10/ BB-163 large eagle reverse dollar: We have seen all dates from 1798 through 1804, including and 1804! The latest offering: Many matching marks with the previous 1802, but with a different reverse which I have not tried to attribute yet... https://www.ebay.com/itm/363899198877?hash=item54ba151d9d:g:TD8AAOSwXBdixjw9 My Coin Week summary article can be found at https://coinweek.com/counterfeits/s...nd-family-of-struck-fake-draped-bust-dollars/ The last few images of the article ended up out of sync with the captions but I think you can still get the drift! Best, Jack.
Sent an note to the seller and received these two responses: New message from: drew25043 (7) It is not, thank you. Such a shame this is what you do with your life New message from: drew25043 (7) Sorry for my reply. I was frustrated, by a previous listing being removed. I looked at some examples, and decided your most likely right. Thanks Listing was apparently removed
When you get the "we looked everywhere", doesn't that mean that ebay removed it? Otherwise I thought you get the "listing removed by seller", but I'm not sure.
Seller can end any listing for a variety of reasons; only eBay can present the "orange hoodie award"...
So, what's the magic sauce to get them to hand out the orange hoodie? If you look in the World forum there's a Thai counterfeit I posted that I've reported three times. It's such an obvious fake it's a joke, but they leave it up there.
I keep trying... https://www.ebay.com/itm/3942120292...kMXJjLe97Enbq342s0hGbNuH2ePK7ItPEqInmBO8XJliQ https://www.ebay.com/itm/394208544804?hash=item5bc8a90824:g:fAcAAOSw3vpjAZ~t
I think you get the "orange hoodie" when you have a lot taken down by the eBay management because it's a counterfeit. As for Thai counterfeit, has anyone bid on it? Perhaps there is so little interest that no one cares.
Yeah the date on that 1801 in particular just does not look right. You can tell the general look is just not consistent with natural wear on a real circulated coin. I could see how someone not well versed in early coinage could be fooled by these though.
Shanghai mint at it again. That 99 looks wire brushed. These fakes getting worse and worse for deception. Thanks Jack for what you do
