This bill is crisp as it can be, just like the day it was minted. It’s a 1993 series and believe it or not, both sides of the note are miscut. That black field in the upper left is part of the markings on the sheet this came from.
Since 1988 series all $1 notes above serial numbers 96000000 were only printed and sold as sheets. That and that block and number are listed as an uncut sheet here.
It’s definitely from a BEP issued sheet. The additional paper with the black mark above the note is called selvage. Hand cutting notes from sheets by professionals is typically performed with a straight edge and razor blade. If you’re thinking someone eye-balls it with a pair of scissors, then you’re mistaken.
