I recently picked up this one from a fellow collector who had upgraded. The lighting isn't the greatest but take your best shot! I'll post the assigned grade Thurs evening. Thanks for looking and comments welcomed.
AU 55 ....I believe that I see some wear. That combined with some scattered marks/disturbances in the fields keeps it out of a 58 (despite what looks to be decent luster)...nice coin overall!
AU58 because of some Reverse scratches. Overall, very pleasing coin and I would feel proud to have in my collection. Hopefully Santa is listening?? : )
Just for comparison purposes, here's my NGC graded MS-60. I think yours is a bit better which is why I ventured MS-62.
AU53 I'm seeing more wear on the obverse than others are. Disclaimer: I'm far from an expert on $.20 pieces.
I would say the slab grade is MS-62. In "the good old days" the coin would have been an AU-58. NGC gave this 1875-CC an MS-62. The reason why I like this double dime is that the coin is fully struck. Many 1875-CC double dimes are poorly struck on the eagle's left wing and the corresponding spot on the shield on the obverse. The color is funky.
The op and Johnmiltons coin better struck on the wing tips than mine and Publiuss a common problem in some of these 20c. Especially the 75-cc
Again, I apologize for my photos. 1 set of lights conked out so the lighting wasn't balanced, which led to the surface marks sticking out like a sore thumb. The coin has full cartwheel luster, and the marks only show up at certain angles under magnification. In hand it's very attractive and I think I have a very nice coin for the grade, which is:
I can see the grade. And an old holder. I’m surprised cac liked the surfaces. But in hand may be nicer. The 1876 a true sleeper. Much rarer than any business strike 20c other than the almost impossible 76-cc
