I’m just finding all sorts of nice coins in this last box I opened. It was sealed 24 years ago. This is nice and will go into my Dansco as I’ve been looking for one and haven’t been pleased with what I’ve seen. This is dated 1855 so only 2 more years were produced after this one. A total of 56,500 were minted. This type is called a Braided Hair and was minted from 1840 to 1857. She has a slightly red shine to her but when you add in the brown toning she looks pink in a few areas. Very attractive in my opinion.
It’s more than perfect for a Dansco set because it’s nice enough to be slabbed. The Braided Hair Half Cents did not circulate very much. Almost all of the survivors have Choice VF sharpness or better by honest wear with Choice EF the average. The pieces that fall short are usually damaged, often because of cleaning. This piece is well struck with nice color. It’s only got one minor spot that doesn’t amount to much. It is a nice find.
