ATS there are a couple of threads about various rumors about CAC that apparently were circulating at the WFoM. Or before. Or are Bunk. Or whatever.

ATS is also a hotbed of cliqueism, slab worship, and people trying to prove how smart they are (usually at somebody else's expense). Enough that if somebody says it rained in Phoenix, I'd look for a 2nd source or a news report about an unusual drowning.

The rumor swirl is that CAC is either shutting down, being sold, or continuing on, and that CAC will get into the business of slabbing coins, or a new company will be formed to slab coins, or something else. John Albanese will be the sole grader or sole finalizer or something else. John is tired of the endless parade of MS66 Merc dimes looking for a gold bean, or the endless parade of AT Morgans.

    Anybody have any information???

I've seen it mentioned too but don't have anything to share besides what you wrote.
Maybe someone will know or we will just have to wait until something happens.

I hate acronyms...... I worked in a job for thirty years that cherished them and I always sought for more transparency and enlightenment. That said, enlighten me fellows. :)

    ATS, WFoM

    I do like John.........:)

Cac closing down or becoming a slabbing company is just lol. Thought random YouTubers weren’t supposed to a source of info? This has been addressed a while ago

ATS=Across The Street. Usually, depending on which forum you are
on, it refers to PCGS and NGC. If you are on the PCGS forum
and you have something to say about NGC, you would just say
    ATS instead of NGC.
WFoM= Worlds Fair of Money. The summer ANA convention that just
    concluded.
NMS= National Money Show. The mid winter ANA convention.

This is soooo true, it's one of the reasons I rarely post over there. I have done a couple of GTG over there and you get all of these self proclaimed experts calling a MS-66 coin a MS-64 for the most quaint of reasons. I had done the GTG just to see if it was still happening, and it was.

I was run out of town ATS so I stopped posting there. Currently, I only post there when I have a coin that grades MS71+ or higher. I am not a snob after all…………….

To be fair thats really any coin forum and several of them post here under different names. For whatever reason coin forums just seem to be inherently negative which is one of many reasons I think GTG threads are just bad. Pretty much anywhere you post them youre going to get people saying not in my book or look how hard I grade etc. It's a shame since a lot of good posters have really been chased off all forums but it is what it is

The rumor I have heard is that CAC might get in the actual slab business. A dealer at Summer FUN told me that as well. They have been contacting people about providing them with pictures of or maybe coins to form grading sets.

The catch is the coins need to be raw, and that makes it hard. They contacted me, and I had to say no because I had the important coins in my collection slabbed over 20 years ago. Since then my major U.S. coin purchases have been certified.

Ever been to the CAC forum? I felt like my coins and my collecting habits really dont fit with the PCGS forum. However, I don't think my bank account is good enough for the CAC forum.

    .

That is disappointing to read. The bank account commentary is not a function of the CAC forum. Maybe your perception of the collectors that post on the educational forum, and some of the collections and pieces discussed gives you the impression.
Participants range for 14 to 80, from beginners to the expert. There is no buy/sell forum, and bank account is not the criteria for lively and interesting discussion.

Note that the rumors that are the subject of this thread have all been discussed directly by Mr. Albanese on the forum. The rumors are not new at all, and are for the most part silly and lacking any logic. They just pop up from time to time.

Truth in editing: changed "the" to "to".

Truth! Lol, I'm not rich, smart or arrogant enough to post over (ATS?) on NGC, PCGS let alone CAC. I'll wager some of our smarter - more knowledgeable - members do well over there, which is as it should be. My complete but low class SLQ set would be laughed out of those forums (my ICG slabbed FR02 damaged details 1916 alone would be liable to get me banned - let alone the NGC 1918/7-S VF Details with a big fat hole in the top). I take a look occasionally and have found some helpful information. Those seem to be more for collectors who have the really high end sets they post that have to be PCGS or NGC certified and dealers. I'm very happy as a collector to have a helpful and informative "home" here, where my stupid questions and shabby coins are more appreciated (or at least well tolerated ;) ).
