Is this the real deal? Searched Tons of Lincolns. Never came across this before. Rhoughts on this please.
Unbelievable that this has bounced around for 65 years...looks like a strike thought to me. Medal filings I would think? Doesn't look like wood As acid would effect the entire surface, pmd one wouldn't see the letter w at 6k .
From the Stuck thru going so Deep? I would think this would have a decent premium since I might only have the only one.
Interesting, the letter transfer could be an M or W. I am not sure what caused it, my best guess is that this could be debris left over from a late stage capped die or die filling's.
I would think that to be correct. I just saw this thread and that was my first and only thought. It’s in the correct place to be from WE on the obverse.
My impression was a defective planchet. I don't think the missing portion of the rim at four o'clock would happen in a strike through.
Definitely a bizarre strike through because of the multiple occurrences of foreign objects in the die. My curiosity is piqued from the 'ES' in STATES appearing on the final coin. If there were a strike through wouldn't the obstruction have caused the letters to be on the object struck through as opposed to on the coin within the strike through?
