Harshly or just cleaned? This 1909 VDB ended up in my stash and I'm pretty sure it has been cleaned. But I'm curious how ruined it is. Any value left in it?
Its worth more than face. It does appear to be harshly cleaned (pitting). I am not an expert on these, but I would grade VF on details and drop a grade or two for the cleaning. But don't take my words, let's wait for the experienced.
Just a SWAG, but I would think that the pitting may be the cause of the cleaning rather than the cleaning causing the pitting. I am far from an expert on the valuing of damaged/cleaned coins (is anyone?), but, to me, the pitting has done more harm than the cleaning.
