I finally have my Buffalo Proofs all photographed by Todd at BluCC. I thought it would be fun to compare my 1913 Type 1 to the 1913 Type 2 and see what people think. One of the coins was a challenge to image, according to Todd (he took three different shots of it). Let me know what you think-- I'll weigh in later. I like the bottom one better..it's more appealing to the eye. if you like I will take the other one off your hands though
I vote for type 2 but both are awesome. I can not decide if the walking liberty half or the Buffalo nickel is my favorite US coin design of the 20Th century. Today I think it is the Buffalo
What am I missing. They are both proofs. They should have the same (or very similar) detail, shouldn't they? Yet that type 1 buffalo looks like he has been shaved compared to the type 2 buffalo. If that difference is real, I would take the type 2, else the type 1.
I like both as they're both PF67's but if I was just to choose one I would go with the T2. To me it just looks like a better shot and therefore the coin looks better. In hand it may be completely different.
The lighting has a better angle on type 2, hence more eye appeal. But they are both gorgeous. Can you imagine what this coin would look like if the mint were producing it today? It would be flat and lifeless.
To My Minds Eye To My Minds Eye....Both have too much merit and are captured enviously well. But Type II speaks louder....to me. :thumb: But I would settle for either.:eat: Great show of great stuff.
It may be just the photography, but the Type 2 looks more detailed, thus more pleasing to my eye. Both coins are winners IMO. Bruce
Type Two...as both coins are subpurb...I believe the type two is under graded! It's a very clean strike nice luster if not higher grade at least a * up grade.imho
type 2, just has the look of a higher graded coin, much more lusterous, which I know isn't as strong in the first place in the matte proofs. unless the luster is much better in hand, seems as if the type 1 might have gotten a bump in grade because of the color. both are pretty sweet though!
Sorry it took me a little while to get back to this thread. The Type 1 Proof proved very difficult for Todd to image -- he tried three different times and I think the above is the best of the three but I feel none quite captures how I regard the coin in hand. One thing that having my coins imaged has taught me is that some coins just are not photogenic. The Type 1 is one of my personal favorites in my collection but you definitely need to be able to move it about to appreciate the toning fully. The Type 2 is a better strike and a technically excellent coin. It gleams in hand and has very little in the way of marks. But I think 900Fine has a pretty good handle on this -- sometimes you have to picture a coin in hand from an image, if that makes any sense. Thanks again to all for the comments.:hail: Jeff
