Is there an unattributed mint mark on my 1916 Merc?

Even the micro S is almost twice as big.

I see the little S - is it an unusual artifact of toning? A repurposed filed down die? A fun mystery to explore IMO. Congratulations on a beautiful and interesting coin.

I am old, but seem to recall that you might be one of the cherished few that know. That does not exclude you from a lawsuit. I will own your bank account, your car, your house and any Legos/GI Joe/ Hot Wheels collections you may or may not have, now or in the future or any of the above mentioned categories previously sold or otherwise disposed of in any manner whether by financial instrument or by a gifting method in the last 5 years.

I will try. I'll give it a shot with some closer photos and see how much detail I can get. Then I can use those to crop even further and build an animation. Maybe moving the light across it will reveal more about the contours. I hope to get to that in the next 4 hours.

The same holds for me for nano "S".

Thanks but no thanks as I have several. The last one I got was in a bag of junk silver that I bought 10 years ago and just opened a few months ago.

If you saw my house and my car, you'd know why I'm laughing so hard. Maybe you can get the foundation-repair folks to come back and finish their job.

Do you mean you honestly can't tell my example is pareidolia, it would have fooled you?

You certainly have a better eye for these things than me. I bet you hold the status of ringer in the cloud game.

There are two MM styles regular & small for 1916.

At least I have both, somewhere

I too see an S, but then I also see a star to the right side of the fasces near the D. LOL

    I retook the pictures.

This next photo is the same size, but still. I think here we can see that the edge of the toning just happens to have a shape consistent with an S. I took my strongest loupe and looked at it in direct sunlight. I could not see any hint of a mintmark.

Thanks for all the opinions and analysis. This was fun!
