1967 Lincoln memorial penny sms .......I found this Penny today and it looked like a proof penny in to me but if I'm not mistaken the only one in that yea sms because of the mint sets instead of proof sets.....
There's not much difference between most coinage of the same type. Except for the fine details. And once you know the fine details, then there's a boat load of differences. There's a lot to learn.
A SMS is the best looking business strike you’ll ever see. It’s not a proof and it’s not a business strike but it looks like both. Why did the mint stop after only three years of minting them?
Here is a 1967 that I would have gotten in change or a bank roll back in 1967. It came out of my album just for a photo session.
I don't understand how the subject coin is getting so many "very nice business strike" accolades. There is strong mechanical doubling on the reverse and quite obvious misalignment on the obverse and reverse. Perhaps I am missing something.
In 1967 the mint only made business strike coins and coins for the SMS sets. No proofs were made. It’s either a business strike or a SMS and with only 2 choices it’s well, one or the other. Even the business strikes were uncommonly good. Hope that helps.
Even if it were a proof, it would now be an impaired proof and not worth much to a collector, IMHO. The rim alone should be an indicator of NOT being a proof.
