Don't know if these have been shared, but two new purchases for me! So-called Dollar HK# 464 And a hard times tokens!
Not familiar with the A & P fair token but I like it. Would that be the A & P chain of grocery stores do you know? Bruce
Yes, from the 1933 Century of Progress exhibition. This and a similar cow motif piece are both listed So-Called Dollars by Hibbler and Kappen. Awesome piece. I'm still looking for the cow myself. Z
Yep, the grocery store chain. Sponsered a revolving stage with performances, marionettes, fan dancers, etc.
Great token and interesting history, Johnny C. I've always had an interest in any history surrounding my coins and tokens. I see you do too. Well done. Bruce
Found in a coin star. Looks to be some sort of vending machine token. Lady liberty on the front. Kind of heavy (5 grams), size of a quarter. Seems like brass.
I picked up a 5 item lot for $10 today. This US Mint commemorative medal was one of the items. Numista has 3 listings for this piece (that i could find, with 3 different N#s), 2 as a token and 1 as a medal, with either 34mm or 33.7 mm diameter and 17 or 20 grams as the listed weight. Mine is the size of an Eisenhower dollar (38mm) and 23.7g. Also somewhat ironically, we have a medal commemorating the 17 total mints that operated in the US over the years, but the obverse and reverse of this piece show strong clashing of the dies! Two sets of pictures to show the toning and the clashes.
The other cool piece was this John Wayne medal produced by the US Mint in OGP. You can see the US MINT in the pilofilm along the left edge with the horse side and the backwards version on the right side of the bust side. Hard to get the color to come through correctly but still full red after 43 years.
I just picked up these 2 from one of my favorite sellers. 1744 Battle of Toulon Medal 1929 dated German Medal for Hugo Eckener. This is a Goetz piece.
