Just got these from my local coin shop, I'm absolutely beyond stoked on all of these! I am going to send all five to NGC so at the moment I'm trying to estimate the grades, let me know what you think of these. 1. 1880 S (payed $80) This coin has an average condition obverse but the reverse is spotless, still has die polish lines, not a single hit in sight, so I have no clue what the grade would be. Will it be around 63 like the obverse shows, or around 66 like the reverse shows? 2. 1882 S (payed $120) Some more beautiful toning and really interesting bowl luster. The pullaway on those lower devices is super strong, really clean surfaces too so I'm guessing around 64, maybe even with a star if I'm lucky. 3. 1882 PL (payed $55!) Really nice proof like finish on this one, both sides have fields that reflect clearly up to about 8 inches. Some nice rim color too, I'm guessing 62 because it does have a fair few hits on the obverse. 4. 1880 S PL (payed $65) A slightly weaker proof like finish, the mirrors reflect clearly up to around 6 inches, so I'm slightly skeptical about my estimate of PL. Some S mint Morgans often have reflectivity but don't grade as PL. In any case the coin is relatively clean, so I think around 64, hopefully PL. 5. 1882 DMPL (payed only $55!!!!!!) The killer coin, the star of the show, the DMPL! I've never seen a real proof Morgan, so I'm not going to jump the gun and say it's proof, but golly it's reflective. Reflects cleanly beyond a foot. I was looking at it last night and noticed some weird brown lines all over the field, but in fact it was my hair, reflecting perfectly and super clearly! That rainbow toning isn't very visible in the photo but it helps the eye appeal tons, so this coin is one I might hold on to for a while... I'm estimating 63 DPL. Something I also noticed is that the toned 1880 S has a larger S than the PL 1880 S. Is that a rare VAM or just a common thing? Have a fantastic day all!
Nice set of toners and great pictures! I’d not tell how much I paid for my coins to avoid people commenting on the price paid and derailing the thread. Regarding the different sizes of the S mintmark, check this out: http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1880-S_VAMs
Those are amazing! Love the purple toned one! Who cares what grade that’s just a bonus if it does well!
63. Not a variety s. 63, Not PL 63, not PL 62, not PL 62, PL. Not close to DMPL. Nice coins. All very common, and low MS grade. I would not waste the money having them graded.
Using the Grade opinions stated by the OP, the NGC wholesale sight unseen bid at present (in listed order): 1. $68. 2.$98 and falling. 3. $66 and stagnant. 4. $92 and rising. 5. $ 73 and falling. Sight unseen does not address toning variances for NGC or PCGS. Truth in editing: added period (.) for clarity. Added "t" to stagnan.
