Don't know if this is the right section, if not please excuse me.

I'm in need of some information about selling coins. I recently found out i'm in possession of an 1909-S V.D.B lincoln coin. Thing is I live in Sweden and have absolutly no previous experience about coin collecting. Since this coin is worth some cash and I have no intrest in keeping it I would like to sell it.
I don't know the full background history about the coin so I cant really confirm if it's real or not. I've taken it to a few Sweden coin stores and they are fairly certain the coin is real but they can't say for sure since they have no experience with American coins.
Who do I turn too in order to know this for sure and how can I later on sell this coin in the most effective way (to guarantee the buyer that this coin is infact real) to sell it? Some advice about how to determine the condition of the coin would also be nice.

Any kind of tips on how I could do this in the best and safest way possible would be great.

    Kind regards,
    Timpa.

If you believe it is authentic, then sending it to an American coin grading service like PCGS would be the way to go. You would then get more $ for it because people would be confident in the fact that it is geniune. Or, you could go ebay, but you would sacrifice quite a bit because people would probably not believe it is authentic.

    AND, welcome to the Forum

Yep send it to PCGS or NGC and then when you get it back and it's real then it's easy to sell.
At that point put it up here on the open forum and it will go.

Agreed - PCGS or NGC are the 2 grading companies I would recommend sending it to - especially for a key date coin. There are others but they are not as reputable and the final price you get will vary greatly if you send it somewhere else.

Welcome to Coin Talk. If you can, post a pic of the coin, both sides with a closeup of the date/mint mark and the vdb on the reverse. Someone here can then give you an idea how to proceed from there.

I could make things easy for you.....send the coin to me, c/o my post office box.
Ill get it graded and send it right back to you..I promise.
On a serious note...find some more dealers that can do due dilegence and make certain it real...weight of the coin will help.
If things check out, send it to a reputable American grading company, maybe even through fed ex so you can track it.
Get it certified before you sell it.

If you send it to a grading service in the US, and there is a VAT in Sweden you will need to take some steps so that when the coin is returned it will be identified as being property that is being returned to you so that you don't get stuck paying customs fees or VAT taxes for your own property. I don't know if that would be a problem for you but I know of others who have had to pay through the nose to have their own property returned to them.

It would also be a good move to post pictures here if you can so that if it is a fake we can recognize we could save you the time and money of getting it certified.

I agree with everyone so far.
First off, post some pictures here. These guys are great in helping with authenticating coins.
if it turns out to be authentic, send it to be graded. Since you are trying to resale it, PCGS is probably your best best
