So they decided to go back and revive the only good part of their 1991 Expert System, the part that scanned the coins and created a digital fingerprint so they would be recognized if they were ever resubmitted. This is old stuff they were doing almost 20 years ago.

And the + is nothing more than half point grading. They have added seven more MS grades. So Uncirculated is now broken down into 17 grades.

Well the + means the grade is a half point higher. The * just means that it looks very nice for the grade that it is, not that the grade is any higher. Also the + means you are looking as a PCGS coin, the * means you are looking at an NGC coin.

Your knowledge of the history of TPGs is always appreciated, especially when one of the grading companies comes out with something they claim is all new.:hail:

But to correct one thing, NGC is also going to + grading so Duke's thought that a coin could be both * and + is apparently plausible. (And a bit confusing). I understand * is supposed to denote special eye appeal but one can get quite confused when you consider that eye appeal is already part of the assigned grade, a point that PCGS again made clear in its recent posting on "Eye Appeal Does Affect a Coin's Grade".
