A curtained slab... Also, notice the URL redirects to http://www.collectors.com/tbo/index.html rather than http://www.pcgs.com
I think they are taking a page from the marketing book of APPLE Computers lol I"m not thinking David Hall is a Steve Jobs though.
What sounds like it? Did they announce IT already? They are a business first and foremost and in so much they provide a lucrative service to the coin & currency collecting and dealing community, therefore profit and competition with their competitors to stay on top, while attempting to be profitable, would presumably be at the top of their list. Nothing is free in life, you often pay more for quality and professionalism but if you don't like what a business charges for a given service then you can choose to take your business elsewhere too.
I say they are going to go toe to toe with the watermelon sticker group.. or perhaps they have purchased the watermelon stickers.. We would then have PCGSCAC for nicer coins and PCGSLEMON for the ugly coins. <--- OK OK, so its far fetched, but really does anyone care?
Humm slab behind a curtain. Might give strength to the quote that they are expanding their barcode from 16 to 22 characters. Ooooh
Well it's after 10AM Pacific Time, site is still down, no announcement. The big news is they've closed down, taken all the cash and the submitted coins in their vaults and have skipped the county while we've been sitting around speculating.
Sounds to me like they want to decide what your coins are worth. I think they want to corner the pricing market. Makes me want to crack open my coins and throw all that plastic in the trash.
lol I dont see the pricing changing anymore then they were. Just another way to get people to resubmit coins to them again.
i should get a medal As part of the new PCGS Secure Plus service PCGS is now designated plus grades for coins that are in the high end of their grade. Plus grades will be designated for grades EF45 thru MS/PR68, with the exception of MS/PR60 and 61. We estimate that about 15 to 20% of the coins in a particular grade will be plus grade coins. The new PCGS Secure Plus service also features laser coin identification. Complete details of the PCGS Secure Plus service are now posted on the PCGS home page www.pcgs.com. The additional plus grade designation will change a lot of things. The PCGS Price Guide is now listing prices for the plus grade coins. The PCGS Population report will report Plus grade populations. As for the PCGS Set Registry, plus grades will now be accepted and recognized as “in-between” grades in terms of weighting. Coins receiving a plus grade will be calculated .5 points higher. In other words, if your coin grades 65+, it will calculate as 65.5 in the Registry. In the words of PCGS founder David Hall, “It’s a marketplace reality that there are high end examples of various grades. Sophisticated collectors and dealers have recognized this for decades and high end coins have almost always traded at premium prices. Plus grading of high end coins mere formalizes this marketplace reality. For the Set Registry plus grading recognizes and rewards the nicest coins.”
How is the + grade different then the * will there now be a + for the grade and a * for the look making a MS68+* possible? And laser grading? Will that get rid of the crack out game?
