Thought I would share my most recent counterstamped piece.

This is a 1959 George Washington Born Virginia restrike by Collis using the original obverse die. About 5,000 were struck in copper, 20 in silver, one lead and one gold.

This copper piece was counterstamped by the Nixon election committee in 1960 when he was running against John F. Kennedy. Nixon obviously lost that election. A truly historical piece.

“Banker marks” were possibly the oldest form of countermarks on coinage. Ancient Greek and Roman merchants would stamp “banker marks” on silver coins to verify their purity and authenticity. These “banker marks” are similar to the Chinese “chop marks” often seen on Trade dollars.

 

I've seen a small number of these recently, Z. Wouldn't mind having an example for my collection but haven't any so far. I did bid on one a couple of years ago but didn't win the auction.

I've been meaning to pick up a nice example of those Brazilian counterstruck coins.

Another of my "signature" coins.

 

Here's a quick one, Z. The Jennie Hubbs was a steamboat that operated on the Mississippi River during the Civil War.

Not a rare stamp but not common either. I've had this one for quite awhile.
