The Franklin cost $15. I figure that is about right, but even if it were high, keep in mind, it would be high for a Type I, not a Type II. $10 is good for your 54. I bought mine in UNC condition w/FBL for $8.

MS65=$650, MS66=$850, MS67=?? or whatever you are willing to pay. These prices are past auction prices.

Not at the last Bmore show, but the one before that I found a 1934 D VAM4 peace dollar for $16.75 in VF. First one I saw in a cull box in years. I also if I find a decent EF-AU VAM 3 for melt I tend to pick them up even though they are not rare like the VAM4; the doubling is so strong and the fact it is starting to be listed in the Redbook. It might take off, then they might not but they most certainly the most dramatic error in the peace series. Here is a link to some pictures of the two different DDO coins

Got 3 1858 flying eagle cents today while roll searching. All of them are in p1, or damaged, but w/e, One appears to be the 1858/7 variety.

Picked up an 1863 indian in xf for $.50
Picked up an 1908 S indian in g for $.25
Picked up an 1914/3 Buffalo nickel for $3
Got a 1909 VDB in VG for $.10
Picked up about 30 worth of silver in old mexican coins for $2.50
That about wraps it up for today.

I just found what I believe to be a 1857O Variety 101 in BU condition for $125 yesterday. I loved the coin and had to have it, but it wasnt until i got home I realized that the reverse was struck with a shattered die and the shattered die matches the variety 101 pictures to a T .......The obverse is the portion im having trouble determining. there should be a high date (there is) slight slope in the date (there is) doubling on the stars ( not all are doubled) double on the 857 (cannot tell:desk:) Im going to the local shop tomorow to use his jewel magnifying glass. If confirmed a 101 variety, the coin should be valued around $5000 which would be my best coin. If the obverse doesnt match its still a 101a which is worth a bit more.:)

I sent 25 Ikes to be graded and checking their status online, found 18 to be the peg leg variety. The whole bunch were given to me years ago.Is that cherry picking? Are they worth much? They're between PF65 and PF67.

Hey Waffles, congrats on all those nice IKEs. The art of cherrypicking has to do with finding something in someone else's collection, whether it be a dealer or a friend, and buying it for less than what it is worth, primarily because the person who is selling the coin does not know what they have. For example, using one of my examples, you buy a Franklin Half off a dealer for $15. That would be an ok price if the coin was your basic Type 1 variety, but you discover that it is a type 2 variety and the dealer is unaware of this. This coin has a greater value than its nonvariety counterpart. Does this make sense? Since all those IKEs were given to you, that is not cherrypicking....at least according to my definition.

What company did you use to have those coins graded? It is an ugly truth of the business, but usually PCGS and NGC command more as do the other companies. ANACS is very good for grading IKEs, but for many, their name does not exude a level of confidence as it does with PCGS and NGC. Funny thing is that ANACS is probably the best out of the three companies. As an IKE collector myself, I would only pay higer dollar for a PF 69 and top dollar for a 70. Anything less than that I usually buy for $5-10. Good luck.

Just so I know, what on this coin makes it the wounded eagle. I have looked for the error but dont really know what I am looking at on this coin so would you point it out for me.
    Thanks

Financeman, my photoshop skills are really poor but I gave it a shot. I tried to draw a circle around the area that you should be looking. If you look at the body of the eagle, there appears to be a "spear" that goes through the body of the eagle. Now, my pics aren't the best. When I bought this coin, the plastic right over this area was badly scratched. I tried to use plastic scratch repair and it helped out a lot, but not 100%. So it looks kinda fuzzy on the pic, but you can still see the top part of the spear. The coin I found looks exactly like this. This apparently is not a die break or crack, but rather a die scratch. Some people have said this is the same thing as the speared buffalo on the 2004 nickel, but I have not seen what they are talking about so I cannot confirm nor deny that. In the whole scheme of things, I would never have given this coin a second glance, but ever since PCGS made this part of the registry set for sacs, it has become big. According to the pop reports published by PCGS, they have only graded around 100 of these. I don't know about NGC or the other companies. It is estimated that about 5000 of these were produced, but I have been having a hard time finding that info again. I just remember reading it somewhere one day. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the info. Whenever I see something and I dont know what the person is talking about, I try to ask a question so I know if I see it later on. Thanks again for helping out

Not really a recent cherrypick, but it's MY most recent one. Went to a local shop, thought I was just looking at an 1834 half dime and as soon as I got home and got a loupe to it, I instantly realized what I had actually bought: a nice 1834 3 over inverted 3 half dime!
