Depends on what you plan on doing with those coins. If putting on a salad later, I suggest the Apple Cider.
ANACS has done problem coins including acid dated coins since at least 1990. Today PCGS and NGC would probably put them in their "genuine but ungraded" slabs. I don't know if SEGS or ICG would accept them.
They grade coins that were made from intentionally altered dies, so I don't see the no problem with them grading acid date coins. They'll just bring far less value. There are several key date nickels that some people can't afford in FA-2 condition. Thats where the acid dates come in to play...
Mine only takes 12-24 hours before theyre in vg condition. the more salt with the vinegar is better since its causes the metal to corrde, and thats how you get the date. Last batch came up with a 1914 3 !!
I used some circuit board etchant from radio shack for finding my dates. it works the same as nicadate and alot cheaper. $10 for 16 oz. It has ferric clorride the main ingredient as nicadate. Its called ( PCB etchant solution) had to order it, but it came in two days and is worth it. I found a 1915s in a group of nodates!
Got a Liberty V nickel, trying salt method =) The thing is worn out a lot, maybe 1880s? Excited to find out!
nic a date works best for coins before 1920. just a drop on the date area leave it there for maybe 30 seconds and rinse thoroughly. some coins do not want to restore for some reason and repeated applications on these can be futile.
The holy grail of nic-a-date products is the one they supposedly had many years ago for worn silver coins. Some say it's a urban myth and others say it did exist.
