I've seen several posts here with pictures of coins in Whitman's folders and the coins always look like they are inserted in the slots perfectly. How do you do that????? When I help my Great Nephew with his collection, that's my job and I hate it! LOL A lot of the coins end up lopsided and fall out when I pick the folder up!!!! Is there an easier way to do this without the painful and aggravating " press it with your fingers"?? HELP!!!!
A ball peen hammer does the job nicely. LOL j/k I usually put a piece of cloth or paper towel over the coin so as not to fingerprint it. Sometimes I'll push down with the bottom end of a (capped) magic marker (through the cloth, obviously). I think it helps if you start with the coin slightly off center from the hole- very slightly- so that one edge is tipped into the hole before the other one (again, very slightly). Trying to push it in when both edges are level can cause some difficulty.
It's interesting that you mention this. I have never had an issue with older Whitman folders, even those that are in near new condition. With newly printed ones, however, I frequently bruise my thumb trying to insert the coins in question. Perhaps its an issue with the manufacturing?
I cover the coin with a piece of Saran Wrap before pushing down. Prevents fingerprints, less pressure needed than with a towel, and let's me see what I'm doing. Definitely press one side first. Don't press in the middle trying to get the coin to go in all at once.
I became very frustrated with those folders long ago...I began to buy Whitman Classic albums in the early 1980s and it was much easier.... they're more expensive but ended my dilemma....plus I never liked the coin folders anyway...I like to see the obverse and reverse of the coin.
That's ridiculous. LocTite Blue (as opposed to the red which is permanent) will at least allow you to remove the coin should you so choose
As I read the above posts, a thought came to me (no, it didn't hurt) that maybe you could use a blow dryer to help the hole expand and then insert the coin? Just one of my medicated thoughts, and no, I've never tried it.
I don’t think the appear would expand much, but putting the coin in the freezer might shrink it enough.
I was wondering the same but had concerns about wetness. The coin would thaw out in colored cardboard.
