This is my second set of Walking Liberty Halves. I few months ago I found some junk silver that I purchased 7-10 years ago. I was stunned at the dates I received in that price range. I only need the 1916-D Mercury Dime and a 1955-D Dime to fill both of those sets. As for the Walking Liberty Half Dollars, I needed 6 of them. I paid no more then $30 for each of them. In fact, 3 of them were less than $15.00. I couldn’t believe the key and semi-key dates were in the bags and rolls of junk silver that I had. I did have to buy one of these and that was the $30.00 coin, the 1938-D, which is a semi-key coin. All the others were in my junk silver purchases from years ago that I never opened. The dates I recently purchased was a 1947, 1917-D obv and rev, 1919, 1919-D and the 1919-S. I know they had lower mintages than most of the others but not a one so I bought them. Yesterday my LCS had the last coin that I needed. It was only $28.00 so no complaints from me. It was a 1917-S obv. I’m not a collector of varieties so there will be six empty holes. I don’t like them but I can live with that. So here’s photos of both albums that complete my second set of these.
I can’t load the photos of the second folder but I’ll try later. The Atmosphere has been terrible the last two days.
Congratulations! I'm very close to completing the set (1916-1947) which is only a few on the last 2 pages
Collecting these is fun and the design is great. Some of them can get expensive, even in lower grades but I’m still amazed at having so many in my junk silver buys. Especially the key and semi-key dates. Now, if only I can find a 1916-D Mercury in low grade for under $500.
Amazing how dealers never look at junk silver dates. Years ago I was in a metal detecting organized [planted] hunt. The fields were planted with junk silver and tokens for prizes that we were to hunt for. In 2012, I was able to dig a 1921 D Merc, sure just in AG, and from retrieving the coin it had a small scratch on it, but still a much better date. Three years later, same hunt I got another 1921 D, again in AG, but nice and no scratch this time. I did manage to find another one in junk silver
