Hello everyone I'm new to this forum, I wanted to get an idea of what this dime is worth? It is a 1921 mercury dime great condition no scratches and has great details you can see the fine details in it like the hair lines and on the back you can see the fine lines. What is it worth if i was to sell it?

If it hasnt been cleaned, i'd say its in VF condition which could fetch $280 or so.

    Hello Steve,

    First Welcome to CT!

About your coin, which is an uncommon coin and appears to be a nice condition. i would suggest contacting the experts and having the coin graded, so you know exactly what it is worth.

I could take a guess, but that is all it would be. A Guess.

Try http://www.pcgs.com/. I am sure they will be more help then me. And grading a coin does not cost that much.

    Regards,
    Stan

I never cleaned it I found it like this while metal detecting.

I would weigh it. If the weight checks out, then the coin is an authentic 1921 merc IMHO. The date looks correct.

Nice metal detecting find. How far down was the dime?

Pics are rather small so cannot tell if cleaned or not.
Since it was found in the ground, must have had some type of cleaning.
    As for grade looks VF-20.
    Can you post larger pics?

It has the whitish pinkish tint of a silver coin that has been underground for a long time. I don't believe it has been cleaned, maybe rinsed off a little...

    bigger pic of 1921 mercury

Here's a bigger pic it's not the best but it's bigger click on the coin. It definitly looks better when you look at it in your hand but by the looks of it I'd say someone lost it in 1921

IMHO in 90 years it would have corroded. more. I say it's a relatively recent loss

silver dosn't corrode at least I never seen one currode yet that I found with my detector. I found older silver coins then this and none were corroded.
