Over the years one tends to pick up Numastic items that really doesn't fit what you actually collect... lets see them, and perhasp an explanation of how they found their way into your collection.
I am not a collector of medals but this caught my eye, with a numbered COA. Celebrating 100 years of the Olympic movement.
Here's a Hotel key fob from the early 1900's, it's huge and thick. Not something I normally collect but it still caught my eye so I bought it many moons ago, not sure where though, maybe feebay!
Recently visited Greece and knew I wouldn’t find any coins to buy but I did find this silver “stamp” celebrating 150 years of the Greek post office but made by the Paris mint. Figured it would be a nice souvenir.
A poured bar that a friend of my sister-in-law had. Part of a small coin collection her deceased husband had. She also had this opium box.
What a fun topic! I bought this silver 1964 Austria 25 Schilling raw because it was shiny and I liked the obverse. I submitted it to ICG to round out an order and was pleasantly impressed with the variety and error attribution but it's totally outside my collecting interests. Someone posted a Sasanian Kings coin like this one, and then I started watching auctions on eBay and putting low ball bids in - until I won this one - from Persia 590-628 AD, and I love it - I may start collecting these. I don't know what it is about this large gilt sterling silver Finland - A. Tukiainen Nordia 1975 medal that I like - the woodpecker on the obverse and steampunk ants on the reverse I think really reeled me in. It's got a very 70s vibe somehow.
For me it would be this set of fake Morgans. I have owned them twenty years and I loathe fake coins…. My son is grown with a family of his own but when he was ten he spent two weekends sweeping floors and emptying trash at a flea market to buy these for me from one of the flea market dealers. To this day I haven’t told him that they are fake and never will until the day he has to liquidate his late fathers collection!
Well time for the OP's Year's ago I had an ebay store and flipped a lot of new US & Canadian coins and silver. There were quite a few releases that were good flips due to their popularity. I recall the Square Beaver coin I fliped quite avfew of those...these two are holograms and to be honest things as such never interest me. But As sailor growing up with a deck under foot...I always had a liking for boats. I have several or had even more ship medals or coins that had a ship or boat on them...I just dug these out this morning ...which gave me the idea for this thread... I believe that there were 4 of these silver $20 coins...the tall ship 13,301/20,000 the Ketch 06472/16,000.
I have such an un-focused collection that just about anything can be justified that "it fits". Of course, that's a problem because it makes it next to impossible to part with anything. These are a couple of head scratchers For a while I was buying stuff with farm animals on it. Undated German Poultry Breeding Silver Medal No idea why or where I purchased the next one. Oddfellows medal And these 2 from Fiji.....just why? I have a problem.
I really like your IOOF token, have not seen one like it. I'm sure I could make that fit in my collection somewhere.
