I respect your right to post non-defamatory comments, and hope that I will always do likely, expecting due comment if incorrectly posted. NUMISMATIC informative posts are believed always welcome here, and I'll appreciate your thoughtful insights as a 70+ year collector, having spent many years working as an assistant in B&M/Shows. JMHO
I generally, as an ongoing eBay observer/researcher, know values for their common products, which I probably have adequate supply. I generally view the offerings of a very learned prominent author, who is often competitive to the Numismatic market with his unique scarce offerings. I, like you, while watching/researching that offered, have found "one-time" competitive offers. I don't hesitate to purchase, as I believe the singular isolated offerings! JMHO
Looking forward to your critiques, I have in the past purchased from RICKS'S. Coins were top notch but I do feel they were overpriced but they offered a set of coins I was tired of chasing. Thanks for what you do. Semper Fi Phil
I was watching a show on TV about the Saint Gaudens Double Eagle and they wouldn't even say the price.
Hi Phil, no, thank YOU! I’m assuming your a Vet or Active Duty. Thank you for your service to our country! Your comment about Rick’s is pretty much dead-on. He has some truly beautiful coins, but the pricing is over-the-top HIGH for most of his offerings. If price really isn’t an issue with a buyer, some top Registry Set pieces can be obtained through him and his show. I bet you’ve got some nice coins from him, but had to resort to a Ramen Noodle diet to afford them! Lol! Thanks again to you! Jeff
I wonder who it was? I have a hunch, but no way to know. If it was a 30 minute infomercial, I definitely know who it was! Thanks for the comment.
I haven't been collecting long, about 13 years. I bought an ASE from Rick and some 2021 Morgans from Mike when I first started. I very seldom buy from the TV market anymore. I do like to look at the offerings from TV Coin shows. As far as Rick's show, you have to listen for quite a while before he tells you the prices. I buy from the Mint, ebay, and Mount Vernon and have found them reasonable for me. I do like to watch the TV shows for good laughs. Thanks to all for your comments.
Thanks for sharing, Jim. If you want to know the price a bit earlier on a coin, instead of Rick or whomever waiting to tell you, just call the Toll Free number when the Item # of the coin is posted on-air. Coin TV show will usually post a graphic with coin description, item number, and phone number. That way, if you are interested in what’s being offered, you can start comparing prices online at places like eBay, Collectors.com, etc. and still have time to call back and order if so desired. Hope that helps. Enjoy the read when it arrives!
I think you should contact both Peter and Doug before you do so. If one of the individuals/Show decides to go to court, the forum "owners" would not be very happy about it , and you might have another court problem with this particular forum and its members affected. None of my business I know, but wanted to bring it up. Jim
I’ve considered that, and will definitely contact them. Can you private message me their contact information if you have it? If you do not, maybe another reader may have it. I am very aware of libel and defamation laws & similar language that’s OK to use, and not to use. Much like a movie critic, my material will be opinion based. But based upon facts inasmuch as possible. I have nothing to gain by doing this. I just hope to inform and educate. I will contact both Peter and Doug, and thanks for running that by me.
Chopper is on tv selling PR70 Franklins. some unheard-of grading company. Hard to know what to buy first- evidence boxes, Ft. Knox bags, or 70 Franklins.
It appears you've made a choice, as would I. Who really cares what TPG, if they're truely PR70 coins! All TPG have been proven fallible? JMHO
I do the same thing at times. I have a few times when Rick was a small amount more and a couple of times even less. Rick does have some really beautiful coins.
I'm often impressed with his factual sales pitch, but also understand his cost to present the "story". I acquired an ungraded competitive set which included the Peace Dollar, that I believe other-wise can't be found in the present struck condition. JMHO
I can hear it now ( on any tv coin show) ohh my god the mint will make 2023 Morgan and piece dollars!!!!! We have them for preorder for (4x the price you can buy from the mint). They will comp these to the 2021 issues without a doubt. !!!!!!!!
I have accumulated several coins from various collections that I have purchased that were slabbed by"OTHER" TPGs, I sent two of them to PCGS and ask that IF they reached the same grade MS66 please reslab and return. Got the coins back with a note that they would NOT resale due to a much lesser grade. Both were graded by NTC (Not This Coin) I sent two graded by NAS??graded at MS65(1 1887Morgan and 1 1921D Peace dollar, 1887 MS67 Morgan graded MS67 by NCG?? and a 1881 S Morgan graded @ MS66 by PCI. I do not know how long It will take to get them back but will post the results when I get them. Semper Fi Phil
