It looks like it's got a lump in the right place, but with the coin's surface issues, I'm not sure you could ever be positive. There are LOTS of lumps on that coin.

Just viewing from your photos, I don't think so, and I don't think I'd spend any money to send it in for authentication either, but that's just me. Good luck.

From my references I say a match for the ovd-001 however to definitely confirm I need to see the obv as well rev. In full so post those and I will give my opinion.

In G its an R-7 & $ 335. And of course as grades increase as does the value.

Another diagnostic is a small cud on the rim at approx 9:00

And thats why I wanted to see the obv.and rev. As the botton of the 8 looks a little off from where I believe that it should be. A full view on a flat surface should be the image needed to confirm.

Ill add that the conditions of what can be seen looks very rough... again a full image of both sides shot flat would be a better image to see whats needed . However if it is the variety its still very rare an R 7 specimen. And worthy of a place in the collection regardless its condition.

I know it's in bad shape unfortunately that's how I found it and I know your not suppose to clean but is there anything I can do to preserve or for lack of words clean up without damaging it farther if it is in fact the 8 over 7

    I don't think it's an 8/7.

Too much corrosion and scaling to make any kind of attribution. And without an attribution all you have is a guess saying "I think it looks like it might be, maybe"

I'm with oldhoopster not seeing it its to far gone from the corrosion and not seeing what should be there to nail the variety. I questioned whether or not yesterday as the 8 looked off where the base of the 7 should be under the 8. It was off from all other references that I had to use to identify. Without the proper images it is just a guess.
I'm always hopeful that someone has found a rare specimen. But sorry no ....

Still can't rule it out, but with a coin that badly corroded, I'm not sure a positive ID is even possible. I'll defer to the experts.

Coin roll hunting? Even if not the 8/7, still neat find! :)
